Georgette Mosbacher's Stiff Upper Lip
At the Harvey Weinstein/GQ party at the Public House on East 41 St., Georgette Mosbacher, another one of the hosts, was putting on a brave face. “As a Republican I plan to have fun in spite of it all. I’ll make the best of it,” said Ms. Mosbacher, who is the CEO of the Borghese cosmetics company and the ex-wife of Robert Mosbacher, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce under George H.W. Bush.
But how upset was she really about the election? “I am so upset, you have no idea,” she said, though she was laughing as she said it. “But I will not show it. I will not give my other friends the satisfaction of seeing me melt down!” read more »

What Did Everyone Do on Halloween?
While Allison Sarofim's annual Halloween party took place the weekend before Halloween, most people celebrated on the actual day since this year it fell on Friday--and there were plenty of masquerades and balls for New York's socials to attend. Some stopped by the several parties going on around town, while others camped out and grazed on bottle service at one location. Here's the Daily Transom's roundup of who went where, as what, and with whom, based on some careful perusal of the Patrick McMullan website.
The biggest socialite turn-out seemed to be at the Rose Bar at the Gramercy Park Hotel, where the bar's creative director Nur Khan and One Management modeling agency president Scott Lipps threw a Halloween party hosted by Jeremy Piven and model Jessica Hart. The costumes trended to the traditional, with Fabiola Beracasa and Genevieve Jones dressed as nurses, Alex Kramer as a school girl, Julia Restoin Roitfeld as a sexy maid, and Russian designer and gallerist Dasha Zhukova as a sailor. read more »
Quoth Brooke Geahan, More and More! Literary Lass Corrals Olsen, Schwimmer, Wohl for Poe Extravaganza
At the Accompanied Literary Society's Halloween night masquerade party, Mary-Kate Olsen looked like an ethereal fairy in a long white down with dusted-on silver eye make-up. She was there to view a recently unearthed Edgar Allen Poe manuscript, Lady Irene, which was on display in front of a DJ booth occupied by model Le Call and actor Leo Fitzpatrick. The poem, written in 1830 and found in rural Virginia, will be sold in New York next month by Bloomsbury Auctions. In the meantime, the auction house lent it to Accompanied Literary Society founder Brooke Geahan for one of her high profile "Literati" parties. And so Ms. Geahan had invited actor Josh Lucas to read the poem for the assembled guests.
"Mary-Kate is an Edgar Allen Poe girl. She's a fan," said Ms. Geahan. "She's a little annoyed at Josh right now because he's not going to read it until midnight and she wants to hear it now. She's like, ‘We waited since 1830, we want to hear it now!" (It was 10:30 p.m.)
To celebrate the poet, the attractive Ms. Geahan was dressed up as a raven. read more »
Bringing Back Gatsby: Brooke Geahan's Accompanied Literary Society Parties Like It's 1929
Brooke Geahan, the 20-something founder of the Accompanied Literary Society, has made a career of throwing scruffy readers and writers together with scenesters and socialites, and using the dim light of glamorous venues to make them look significantly more attractive than they might elsewhere. She was up to her old tricks on Wednesday, Sept. 25, when the Accompanied Literary Society threw a party in conjunction with Diesel, in the penthouse of a new luxury condominium in Tribeca called One York, at the intersection of Canal and Sixth Avenue.
The gathering was in honor of "Flash Fiction," a public art project of sorts in which 10 short stories—commissioned from authors such as Jonathan Ames, Colum McCann, Sloane Crosley, Jonathan Lethem, and Jay McInerney—were screened on the side of the building. read more »
