We got the details on Armin Amiri's plans for the space formerly known as Cafe Socialista, which he is turning into an exclusive all-night diner.

At a lunch in honor of Bill Maher's Religuous, we solicited opinions on religion and religious person Sarah Palin from Kathleen Turner, Joy Behar, Janeane Garofalo, and Andre Balazs

We took a walk down a rather dissolute memory lane with David Carr and Tom Arnold at a Soho House celebration for the film adaptation of Toby Young's How to Lose Friends and Alienate People (bonus: info on star Kirsten Dunst's burgeoning writing career!).

Robet De Niro expressed ambivalence about a poorer--but grittier!--post-crash Manhattan at the premiere of What Just Happened?

We got shut out of Rupert Murdoch's party for New York Post writer Steve Dunleavy, but had a pretty good time anyway.

Cover Your Eyes! A Guide to What's Opening This Weekend

Cover Your Eyes! A Guide to What's Opening This Weekend

After six weeks of near nothingness at our local movie theaters, Hollywood has decided to reward us by releasing some twenty-three movies this weekend for us to choose from (actually there are eight, but it seems like more). Couldn't some of these have come out during September, when we actually had time to see them? Sigh. Chances are, you've already heard about Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and How to Lose Friends and Alienate People. And we're sure you would never see Beverly Hills Chihuahua. With that in mind, here's a handy guide to this weekend's other new releases.  read more »

“I’m carrying Sarah Palin’s baby!” the actress Caroline Rhea was telling guests while rubbing her pregnant belly at a lunch for comedian Bill Maher’s new documentary, Religulous, at Brasserie Ruhlmann on Monday, Sept. 29.

The film, the title of which combines the words “religion” and “ridiculous,” is a satirical take on various faiths, directed by Larry Charles, better known for his work on Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.

“I thought it was very instructive,” said The View host Joy Behar. “I grew up Catholic like Bill—communion, confirmation, the whole thing—and even if you’re a religious person, you watch this and you think, ‘I have to question a few things.  read more »

One might think that with an outfit of paparazzi following Charlize Theron’s every move, thieves and robbers would steer clear of her well-monitored pad. But as fellow Hollywood leading ladies like Uma Thurman can attest, some people just don’t get it. At least that was the unfortunate case for the 32-year-old Monster star, whose privacy was recently violated in a major way. Police spokesperson Sara Faden has now confirmed that Ms. Theron’s Hollywood-area home was broken into last week. She could not say, however, if any of the Academy Award winner’s possessions had actually been taken. But considering the actress’ sky-high status and innumerable fans, a robbery-less break-in might be creepier than if some Wedgwood and a candle stick or two had been snatched. Amanda Silverman, Ms. Theron’s publicist, had not responded to press inquiries as of yesterday. Ms. Theron’s next film, Bill Maher’s Sleepwalking, opens on March, 14.
