Ladies Retort With—Good Lord!—a $990 Cocktail Short
It used to be that if a grown woman were wearing shorts, it would be for purely utilitarian, counter-style moments: jogging, errands on a hot Saturday, a trip to the Laundromat. That is no longer the case.
There is the return of the ’60s high-waisted hot pants, sent down the runway this season by Erin Fetherston and L.A.M.B. There is the Bermuda short that reaches right above the knee, from Tory Burch ($195) and BCBG Max Azria ($138), for the BlackBerry clutching gals in midtown, and the neat little cuffed and expertly tailored Fanciful Short by Alice and Olivia ($165) and Badgley Mischka ($138), preferred by those going for a Lower East Side look, like the actress Kirsten Dunst. read more »

Bonkers at Barneys! Sale Attracts Swarm of Sale-Hungry Shopaholics
This morning at around eight o’clock, Barneys flung open its doors to welcome stylish spendthrifts—reportedly over 100 of them—who had lined up to make like locusts at the store’s warehouse sale. Our morning coffee must have been spiked with too much sanity, because we weren’t there to report on the dumpling-line doppelganger. But a New York fashion reporter was, and they got some good stuff … for free!
If the curious magnitude of the sale was ever in question, the two girls from Long Island, who apparently boarded a 5:30 a.m. train to the city, can probably speak to its import. Or perhaps the woman wearing “a big furry hood” who got in line at six a.m. could put in her two-cents on the matter. That is, unless she needed to put them toward a $200 pair of Christian Louboutins. read more »
Kate Moss' Energizer-Money Birthday Rampage

At Repetto Fête, Charlotte Ronson Exalts Jane Birkin, Brigitte Bardot, Kate Moss
Last night brought together a spirited mix of New York’s cutting-edge fashion designers and artists—young representatives from two industries that are impossible to keep apart these days.
Designer Philip Lim, model Jessica Stam, stylist Kate Schelter, Vogue’s Stephanie LaCava, socialite Genevieve Jones, men's wear designer Thom Browne and supermarket mogul Ron Burkle were among the revelers swirling around the Max Lang gallery in Chelsea—a smallish, brightly-lit, bi-level space on Tenth Ave. It's where French shoemaker Repetto was celebrating its 60th anniversary traveling exhibition and the launch of their eponymous charitable foundation. read more »
Kate Moss to Welcome TopShop Stateside
It’s been two whole years since Kate Moss was busted for bad stuff, but she’s still selling like hot cakes in a snowstorm. Word on the street is that the supermodel-cum-fashion mogul, 33, will cut the ribbon at America’s first TopShop store when it opens next year. She’s currently south of the border shooting a campaign for her Spring 2008 collection, which is reportedly “very Jade Jagger in Ibiza.” Whoa! That could mean a whole mess of things—alotta teeny bikinis, wicked-hangover robes, fuzzy hot pants with neon lighting attached—but, alas, the bloggers at Fashionista think it alludes to Ms. Moss’ last collection. (Apparently Ms. Jagger plus the island of iniquity, in some sense, equals “printed caftans.”) Impatient fans of the model’s trendy threads can stave off any unwanted knicker-knotting by visiting the TopShop Web site, where her first collection for the English retailer is 50% off.
In Lieu of Gifts, Please Send Kate Moss Flowers
Kate Moss will grace the cover of V magazine in the coming months, Fashionista reports today. But the people over at V, it seems, don’t really want anything to do with paying for the expensive set. Instead, hired fashion photog Nick Knight has begun soliciting donations on his company’s Web site, ShowStudio.com, to pay for the flowers that he plans to use for the shoot.
The shutterbug’s high-style mea culpa tells prospective donors that they, too, have a “unique opportunity to be part of the shoot by sending a personal floral greeting to Kate.” Really? It mustn’t be so! Wait, there’s more: “Simple sprays of freesias are very welcome, and hand-ties of peonies even better, but our advice is to get creative to ensure your contribution stands out and makes it into the final selection!”
Apparently Mr. Knight plans to take pictures of the fragrant offerings before he snaps Ms. Moss. Then, Mr. Knight’s Web site says, he will produce a three-dimensional “photo sculpture around which the supermodel will be posed.”
Donations will not be accepted after December 5, so hurry up and help Ms. Moss be photographed on top of a really neat three-dimensional flower picture! read more »
Kate Moss Struts Stuff in DKNY for Mert, Marcus

Agyness Deyn: The New Kate Moss?
Overheard at the Chopard party last night (but not by us!):
Agyness Deyn and Jamie Burke, discussing an early call time this morning.
Could it be that Agyness has swapped out Lara Stone for the CK Jeans campaign?
If true, it marks the second time in a year that Ms. Deyn has replaced Kate Moss in a signature campaign (the first being Burberry).
And although we love Lara's face and amazing body, let's face it:
If anyone can make a pair of ripped, overpriced pants look like an essential tiara, it's the Machester [sic] native... read more »
