Weiner Gets a Gioia
In preparation for his all-but-officially declared run for mayor, Anthony Weiner has hired Lisa Hernandez Gioia, I've just confirmed.
She's an accomplished fund-raiser who most recently worked for one of Weiner's 2005 opponents, Gifford Miller. Of the many criticisms one could have made of Miller's mayoral run that year, the campaign's ability to raise money wasn't one of them. [link fixed]
It's another sign that Weiner,, an outsider in the 2005 mayoral race, will look a lot more like a front-runner in 2009. As he'll be the first to say.

Didn't the Gifford campaign get in trouble with the CFB while she was raising money for him?
usually campaigns have separate consultants who do the compliance. Gifford used one of those firms.

Now he can not only raise tons of cash, but bring in the fake-Spanish vote.
Hopefully she will bring bigger assets to weiner.
Good move. The only reason he didn't force a run-off in '05 was that he couldn't raise the money. He needed to bring on a new team

Councilmembers are all talking about how they will screw Quinn when (if) she runs for highter office.
Gioia was the first one to boldly KICK Quinn in the knees.

Unless Weiner plans to be as supportive on gay issues as Miller was, then none of the "gay money" is going to Weiner. And it did a lot of good BTW for Miller to be king of the gays...
This isn't a kick against Quinn, I'd doubt Quinn wanted her. Her husband is a notorious leaker and she provided him with TONS of info that he used to sabotage Miller.
Good thing they Hired Gioia, his last fundraiser was awful. I'm sure Gioia will raise the max.
Usually Councilmembers and their affiliates wait till the field is drawn before jumping ship from their Speaker. 3 years out and everyone who works with Quinn is already spitting in her face. Not a good sign for Madame Speaker.
she's a huge shakedown artist, using her husband as an "in" with candidates. she's not very talented--anyone can bring in the low-hanging fruit.
The Speaker raises money from the same old people who pay to play.
Quinn is now beginning to call all of those people and ask for money (Yes, she is shaking down the same old people. Just no checks from their lobbyists).
Starting tommorow, Anthony Weiner will be calling them and the former Speakers fundraiser will be opening the doors.
This is horrbile for Quinn.
And BTW, Miller maxed out + so his fundraiser must off been pretty talented.
The only reason this is happening is to help her husband get "ins" with each of the contingencies. She assumes (incorrectly) that she has the Gifford money locked up, she phoned-in the post-primary Ferrer campaign and now she's after Weiner's people.
The Quinettes seem to be real mad at Gioia.
They should be mad at themselves for not being able to garner any loyalty from their own Councilmembers.
Well, in 2009, he will be the Public Advocate and Christine Quinn will be handing out condoms on some corner as part of her job as a social worker for an AIDS awareness group.
I here Quinn is going around to the same old Pay to Play donors at the City Council and shaking them down for money.

So does this mean Weiner will be supporting Gioia for public advocate? He's all but announced for that post as well.
Get real. Most of the politicos (council members & congress people) take from the developers. Look at the CFB , & see what Councilman Domenic M. Recchia, Jr. took from Mr. Sitt ( Thor Equities & friends). Thor has Mr. Recchia in their back pocket for Coney Island development. Mr. Recchia is probably going to run for Congress against the incumbent Mr. Fossella of Staten Island and even if he loses that race we will see him running for Brooklyn Borough president. He's has learned well from Quinn about "pay to play" politics.

Hey, at least no one of you are dealing with the second coming of George W. Bush- young Kevin Peter Carroll of Brooklyn Democrats for Change.
A 20 year-old kid packs a progressive democratic club with outsiders so he can win the presidency. He then goes on to transform it into a dictatorship. The next step for him is to run for political office. Scary to think of this kid being an elected official.
I always wondered how some of these egotistical maniacs get started and now I have a front row seat to it.
Lesson learned: stop bullies in their tracks when they're young. Otherwise, they get too powerful.
Leave spouses, children, pets, parents, etc., out of this. C'mon, that's unnecessary. Stick to the facts. They all have to accept money from developers and lobbyists and special interest groups. That's why we need full public financing of elections.
Again, look at some of the bright-eyed, bushy-tailed colleagues she has to work with in the Council. Some work extremely hard but others are shamefully inept.
But give Speaker Quinn some credit. She has worked hard to get where she is today. You may not like her. You may hate her. But stop the personal attacks on her. She had to make too many deals to become Speaker. That's the way the game is played. If you don't like it, get involved with the clubs, elect good and honest district leaders who will help hold the other electeds and county bosses accountable. Look at Brooklyn. It is still a mess because most of the district leaders did nothing to stop the Clarence Norman machine. SILENCE = CONSENT.
But stop sitting at your desks, collecting your salary that my tax dollars help pay, and taking cheap shots at her. DO SOMETHING POSITIVE AND CONSTRUCTIVE for once in your life. Change the system and don't you dare complain that it's impossible to do.
That's why I am fighting my own little tyrant in Brooklyn.

She's beholden to Councilman Recchia. (She works in his office) . It's very hard to get honest capable people in gov't when it's stacked against them.
