Carrion Ducks Out on Richardson

At last night's Bill Richardson event, the honor of introducing the first Hispanic to run for President in a major party was supposed to go to Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion, according to an advisory from Carrion's office.

But then, it seems, things got complicated. Carrion has already endorsed Hillary Clinton for president. A photo of him next to Richardson, presumably, would have made a statement that the Clinton campaign might not have appreciated just now.

(Carrion, it should be noted, has acted very aggressively in the past to bat down rumors of dalliances with other candidates).

For whatever reason, Carrion cancelled, leaving Richardson to be introduced by one of the event's organizers.

A spokeswoman for Carrion emailed to explain: "He had a family issue that he needed to deal with." -- Azi Paybarah

Carrion is a clown, a non entity without political sophistication.

How do you explain the clown's absence during the recent Bronx fire tragedy?

He is irrelevant in the big picture. He'll make a great assemblyman for his district.

I thought his dog ate his speech for the governor

2009 watcher (not verified) says:

Sheesh, Fidel, take it easy. Carrion is no more a clown than the other 4 Boro Presidents who, quite honestly, have no substantive authority anymore - the positions are little more than ceremonial. What Carrion does have, though, is mainstream appeal and a Hispanic voting bloc that could be useful in any citywide race. Whether or not he will be able to raise real money and overcome the weakened Bronx machine is another story.

what a lack of conviction.

I like Carrion a lot, but he seems to be pretty flakey. That extends to an even greater measure to his staff. Very nice people, that just don't have their act together nearly enough to run for higher office.

Carrion is all over the place, he will be a huge contender in the Mayoral race. I have heard he is raising some serious money

Anonymous says:

The only thing Carrion can raise if he decides to run for higher office is your taxes.

He has no vision, no new ideas, no team. His wife is lovely.

No Way to Run A Railroad, or for Mayor (not verified) says:

He needs to stop promising to introduce pols at events, getting billing at them, and then cancelling at the last minute. Whether they Assemblymembers or Governors running for President, it's very uncool and is evidence of a scheduling operation, or even worse a principal, who is not ready for prime time.

He did something similar to Kerry in 2003.

Anonymous says:

Well rather him cancel then speak at a Richardson event, get the publicity and access for it, and then talk up another candidate as some did in 2004.

Anonymous says:

the point is, he never should have agreed to do it in the first place...I'm sure he got scolded by the Hilary people as soon as they found out.

Grow your moustache back, Adolpho.

Yeah, but keep it tightly trimmed and avoid any other facial hair, which might get in the way when flecks of foam fly out of your mouth. Trust me on this!
