Loyal NJ Republican Flips
Mike Ferguson, a conservative Republican who was re-elected to his suburban New Jersey seat by less than two percent of the vote last year, just announced that he would vote against the resolution condemning the escalation of the war.
The youthful and ambitious pol, who engaged in some rather embarrassing district-shopping before winning his 7th District seat in 2000, nearly saw his political career collapse last November, when Democratic Assemblywoman Linda Stender mounted a strong challenge by criticizing Ferguson's loyalty to the House GOP leadership.
She is considering challenging him again next year -- and his vote against this resolution now figures to feature prominently in that campaign.

Good for Ferguson stand up to the people who hate being american.
Kudos to Ferguson for standing up for what he belives in. Hopefully this is a sign that House republicans will start acting like republicans again.
I agree, it would be great if Republicans will always honest and upfront about what they believe in. If they were it would be a lot easier to defeat them.
Chris Shays is also voting against the resolution despite his deathbed conversion on Iraq during the campaign. Talking about misleading the voters.
Very cute anon, but the reality is that republicans win when they act like republicans. When they talk honestly about protecting America or about financially empowering average citizens, they connect with the voters and win. When they focus on expanding gov't programs and congressional power they lose.
And, judging from the 2006 elections, when democrats act more like republicans, they win too.
Linda was a terrific candidate. This is great news and shows her campaign was successful
Ferguson is a disgrace to Congress and New Jersey. He shamelessly shops around looks for a district to elect him. He is out of touch with the people in his district and does not focus on constituent services. Unless you are a right wing nutjob his office will not assist you.
The headline doesn't make sense. Isn't Ferguson not flipping?
Hornak,
I guess that explains your stunning success in Manhattan politics.
I agree with 12:53. It's a disgrace when a candidate district shops. Or state shops in the case of U.S. Senate.
And Jerry is right, the headline is confusing.
