The Return of Tony Herbert
A reader passed on a notably early campaign announcement for 2008 state Senate candidate Tony Herbert, whose candidacy officially gets underway with a glitzy fund-raiser next month at Jay-Z's 40/40 Club.
Herbert's candidacy marks not just one of the first local 2008 campaign kick-offs I know of, but -- after his recent, unsuccessful run against City Council member Tish James as a Republican -- it represents a return to his roots as a Democrat. Sort of.
From an email to potential supporters:
"For decades, our community has blindly voted for any candidate based on party affiliation. This has led to our community being ignored by the same elected officials we voted into office. As long as we don't make our elected officials EARN our vote, we can't expect them to respect our needs in return! "

Dear Friend and Supporter:I first wish to Thank all of you whom have supported and contributed to my ongoing efforts in bringing our community into an Ownership Society through our great many networking mixers, business forums and personal development forums over the last 10 years.
As the old saying goes, "times change, people change." This year, I believe that its time for politics and how they are played to be changed. There needs to be more of a focus on doing the business of the people and not that of greedy individuals.
So on Today, I proudly announce the creation of an Exploratory Committee for my proposed candidacy to the New York State Senate 2008" to explore bringing about this change. I can really use your help in sending me to Albany to help right a lot of wrongs.
I am leading a group of reform minded young professionals, and have agreed to run on a platform of ideas that will help change NY for the better. This group of reformers are not only offering progressive reform for NY in general, but are offering real specific solutions, in Job Creation, Small Business Development, Affordable Health Care and Housing as well as Education Reform for our city and state.
Our group of reformers have proposed specific budgetary and governmental proposals, many of which have already been adopted by the NY City Council last year. Included in those proposals were the 2% property tax reductions and the earned income tax credit for low income families. To date, our proposals have received widespread press coverage and respect from people involved in politics at all levels.
This year, I will stand side by side with these reformers/candidates running as a unit for offices ranging from the State Assembly , State Senate and to the US Congress. This unit will make our issues ring "loud and true" across the state and will aid in the organization and execution of my State Senate campaign.
I will outline in greater detail, my Platform and vision on my proposed candidacy and how I propose to positively affect our community as a whole on March 28, 2007 at the 40/ 40 Club in NYC..
On this date you will hear about my strong commitment to empower our Youth and the campaign to give them access to resources that will direct them to responsible citizenship and away from the streets and its negativity as an alternative (gangs)!!
You will hear about my plan to create more job opportunities and an educational strategy to help prepare the overwhelming 50% of unemployed African American men in our community to become employable.
You will hear about my plan to create and support the development of more minority and women owned small businesses.
You will hear about my plan to provide Women and Children in our community with better Health care, with an emphasis on funding proficient early detection methods, and just as equally important you will hear about my commitment to secure and retain Affordable Housing for all.

A few years ago, he cajoled, lobbied, argued, pined, wooed and did everything possible to get the Republican nomination to replace James Davis.
Party leaders around the borough got calls from Tony and his supporters at all hours of the day and night.
And after they finally gave him the Republican nomination ...
He did absolutely nothing with it. He raised no money, made no effort, expended no energy on the campaign itself.

Please can anyone tell me, that is anyone that has lived in the community for more than five years, which politician, not counting those who just took office (the jury is out on them), but those incumbents that have anywhere from 2 to 23 years in office , WHAT have you done to better the community in which you have served for too many years but yet we open our eyes every morning and what we see is more and more of our youth going to jail from our million dollar blocks, so named because the millions spent in upstate prisons that house our young men. Now if someone who has lived in the community all of his life, Watched his mother struggle to keep a roof over the heads of him and his brothers, albeit as squatters. In this neighborhood where middle class feared to tread, this is where Mr. Herbert grew up. (Wasn't Mr Bloomberg a democrat?) As a democrat Mr. Herbert sought to represent the community where HE GREW UP. But as we have seen in the past year the democratic leadership of Brooklyn was far from squeaky clean, and some are still teetering on the edge of downfall as we speak, this group of democrats denied Mr. Herbert the opportunity to get on the ballot, when it was proven that he had the signatures, only to be told that because he did not have a date stamp on his court papers, his cased would not be heard. This all by a judge that was in bed with the democratic machine and its leadership some of whom who were in the court room that very day he was told he could not run, giving signals to the judge from the back of the court room, these same folks are on trial for selling judgeships. Mr. Herbert never stole a dime from anyone, so for someone on here to call him a crook is misinformed.
Now going back to the party issue, What I can't understand is AFRICAN AMERICANS HAVE HISTORICALLY BEEN REPUBLICAN. So why is it if any opportunity was denied in one party why is it wrong to seek success with another party (nothing new here). I would think that if someone recognized that they were not afforded the opportunity of a fair democratic process and cut out because other deals were being made to put a yes person in, then Mr Herbert had every opportunity to run as it is and was his legal right.
The Lord shall punish those that bare false witness against their neighbor as in this case. This man only wanted to do the right thing by his community and had the rug pulled right form up under him. He had the experience, and wasn't going to be a crony of the party he thought would support him, yet turned around and put a sellout into the very same seat that would hopefully bear fruit for their individual agendas than that of the community.
There should be young people like Mr. Herbert, he is a decent God fearing man, who loves his kids and his family, and would do anything (within the law) to better his community. So to all the haters, you should only wish you were half the man he is.
Tony is a notorious user. He uses friends and any political party that will suit his needs at that moment. He has personally owed money to many individuals who thought he was a responsible human being. He is not a humble or reliable person at all. He isn't true to his word, his debts or his friendships.
Say what you may, Tony Herbert can do a much BETTER job than Montgomery just watch and see, this is 2007 not 1980, and by the way what has Montgomery really done for the community since she has been in office? NOTHING.

I am someone that has known Tony for almost 20years. Was it the time he lived with his girlfriend for like 3 months and she found out on the radio after she came home to almost an empty home because he took almost everything and moved out that he was getting married to someone else the next day? Was it the time he stole $11,000 from someone he called a friend? Or when he lied to the news on tv and said he was on the phone with the Hon. James E. Davis a week prior to his murder stating to him "But Tony, would you die for this political seat"? He has never been honorable, ever! Unless he gained and he would say anything to do so. Wow, he was a politician in training WHO KNEW?! For the guy that said he lived in the neighborhood for 49yrs who cares. Did you know him personally for any of those years? Yeah he wanted to run in an area WHERE HE GREW UP ALRIGHT. WHERE HE GREW UP AS A LIAR AND A CROOK and everyone knows it. Hes a crook and YOUR MISINFORMED. I know everything and then some about him. This guy owes my friend from back in the day. He owes Brock Harris of Brockstar Entertainment money. He doesnt even know me and he owes me money. Brock had asked me to hook this guy up with a rental and he stiffed me the money. Boy you dont want to look at this guy past. Hes a washed up wannabe house music radio host. He would throw these parties at clubs and 20 people would show up and they would be his friends and djay. I remember he got some money from a guy I went to high school with and he was a known street guy that dealt with drugs. Word is they gave him $30,000 to promote the party and noone showed up. Anything that had Tony-Tune Entertainment on it was the last place you wanted to be. Noone liked this guy, he would make promises he could never keep. He is sure in the right business though. Politics. I see he still cant even get support. Ive heard so many stories about this guy and his lies. Its sad because just last year I bumped into someone that he owed money to and talked real bad about him. Some people never change. Never seen this guy with a women. He would always be trying to hit on someone elses women. The worst of the worst. That guy that said he knows this guy for 20yrs I wouldnt be surprised that I know him. Oh by the way, he isnt lying about that women finding out that he was going to get married the next day on the radio. I knew her, she was in the record industry and she blackballed him all over the place. She had to borrow my truck one night to get home from the studio because he didnt pick her up. Exposed. Thats the first words that come to me. I dont think I know the last two people but I sure do remember a few of those things they mentioned. I have been to two of these tony tune parties. One noone showed up and another about 100 people showed up. So that part is true. I remember because I took my then girlfriend to one for her birthday and she never forgave me for it. I found out later on that the guy that put the party together did business with my brother and he "lost" $7000 dollars. Ofcourse he got the money back that same night this guy didnt get a chance to collect it. He tried to swindle my brother out of it. Then a few years later everything was cool like he didnt try to beat him. So much so he was invited to his wedding. This I will confirm, I attended the wedding as well. Whats so sad is they were talking about just what one of the guys said above. How he was living with someone else a day or a week before and they were hoping the girl didnt show up to the wedding. They were saying she did hear about the wedding on the radio. Thats a coward and a con artist. Another sad thing if I remember correctly his wedding was at some restaurant. Anyway, I put my two cents in, Im sure all these facts can be checked out. In my experiences with him he has shown me that he is a con artist and doesnt care about anyone but hisself. You hope people change. When I saw him run as a republican and democrat and didnt get votes either way I said to myself "If politicians dont like him, he is the plague amongst the plague". Its messed up that professional liars dont even want you.
He cheated on me, he gave me herpes, he insulted my mother, he borrowed my car for an hour and returned it three days later. I have had money go missing in my home more then once and Im so frugle when it comes to leaving money around. There was an incident where my bank card was used to withdraw $500 out and I didnt catch it until the end of the month. The bank gave me my money back but the atm video had someone with a NY Yankee hat. He always wore a yankee hat around me. Him and all his friends. He took me out to dinner the first night and all of a sudden "forgot his wallet". I should have known then. He even went out with my neighbor after I moved from the apartment I moved out from and she told me herself that he did the same things to her. Borrowed her car and never had money. He is the poster child for politics as usual. I see he is still the same, a little boy and noone to run to. My greatest assurance is that he will have nobody and die alone. No women will want to spend any real amount of time with this child of a so called man as soon as his true colors come out. It took me a five weeks to stomach his little pp and five more minutes to leave his ass alone.

a local reporter told me this online article was getting some life but i had no idea what kind of things would be said. i see someone just left a comment right before mine as well. in all fairness we really dont know this guy. seems like his closet is being opened. doesnt mean he isnt trying to do better now but damn if only half those things are true i would be very concerned. just based on his flip flopping parties for votes should say it all. in which he gained no support in either party and didnt even know how to process the right forms in time to report his signatures. politicians have done that in the past when they didnt have enough people signed. makes them look like they had the required number of signatures and was just late filing the paperwork. like i said we dont know this guy but it doesnt look good from peoples comments here or his political actions thus far. everyone deserves a chance even if its making an azz out of themselves.

If you really know Tony, you will know that all of this sh*t is a lie. When he was younger and under 25, yeah he dated and played the field. But as a man, he has stood up to represent black men the right way as witnessed more often than not on the nightly news.
He is no thief, and by far has to much respect for himself to get caught up in any stupidity of dealing with known drug dealers. If you look at what he has done over the last 10 years he has built up opportunities for minority buisness owners,promoters, dee jays and young people. This man had a tiny black two door honda and thought he was the man. This man tried to put moves on me in that little car so I told him I wanted to go to the store and never got back in the car. He wanted me to do something in that tiny car and had the nerve to show it to me! To the sista that said something about his little "pp" she is right. This was years and years ago and reading all of these comments tells me I did the right thing. He said he was taking me out to eat at this very nice elegant restaurant and it was a sit down spanish take restaurant on flatbush ave across the street from the old movie theatre that used to be $3 on Wednesdays I think. I was so embarrassed for him. I was making six figures then and he just embarrassed hisself. So right at the restaurant I got out the car, walked across the steet to a fruit stand, walked to the corner and hailed a cab. Called my girlfriends and met them at 21 to explain this man and his actions. I dont think he even knew what 21 was. Not even today I bet. Good ridence! To quote another post this man was just a "clown".

Someone emailed me this blog because they thought I would be interested in what was being said. He was thinking about leaving damaging facts about Tony on here but he changed his mind, the past IS the past. This is what I wanted to add. I was at Tony Herbert wedding to Jackie that he has his twin boys from and one of the posters was right it was at a restaurant so he might have been there. The rumors I can confirm was right as well about how he lived with someone just a week before. Thats his business and Im sure he regrets and has moved on. In fact I read all of this and I can confirm everything except the money from drug dealers. I dont know whats that about. I been to many of his parties that failed. I even knew a dj he used alot called DJ ACE. He has owed alot of people money and still owes. I went to two ski trips that were very successful because he did them with someone else and his family was involved. I even knew Brock (Brockstar Entertainment) very well. Sure, he probably WAS like that. That just means he owes his community alot more then most of us. He wasnt a very good person, I wanted to put my fist through his face a few times but Im like three times his size. Its what you do with your life and how it ends that makes a difference. He owes bigtime. Latanya, you cant defend someone that has a past, you can only defend their future. You shouldnt be calling anyone names cause you werent there. Most and I mean 95% of this listed is true. All you can say is that you hope he learned and it has nothing to do with the NOW. But you cant defend what has already happen. No disrespect my brother, All I see and hear in here is a handful of people who claim to know Tony. I can say with every conviction that those that claim they know him, DON'T!!! But I do!!!
Okay so your are able to rattle off the names of some of his brothers and sisters, however he does not have twin sons. His wedding reception was held in Manhattan at a friends restaurant who appreciated him for helping him when he needed a friend.
So what is it of anyones business?. As to the stories in here, there are two sides to every story. As for the failed parties, most promoters had bad events, thats nothin new. As to his owing people again there are two sides, that is crazy. FYI Tony had money, from his car accident as well as the fact they he worked most of his life. This man has been dumped on by a host of people who he gave opportunities to that he also cut off when they didn't carry their own weight. I bet you don't know that much? So before you critize soemone, walk a mile in the man shoes.
Let me say this....How much can one take before they have to shut down from being played by the people that you have helped at every turn along the way. Did you know that he started his radio show to help local dee jays who were not in primetime or even on the map get noticed? Did you know that he started his television show to promote black people in a positive light. You never saw anyone on his show shaking their azz or being displayed in a demeaning fashion, all the while he tried to help promoters make money and have them ask for discounts when in esscence he had staff to pay. Try not getting paid at all sometimes and having to take it out of your pocket because you didn't want to be seen in a bad light.
You talk about wanting to physically attack him, now who would've been the bad guy if that would have happened. then again I ask why would you want to do something like that?. I asked Tony if he even knew someone name BIG Thomas!!! Guess what!!! name draws a blank.
So when you come at people with lies and innuendo, especially someone who has been in the public eye for more than 25 years then and now, you must imagine that there are going to be haters from the past who didn"t get what they wanted from Tony. Again those handful of people can't say that they know who Tony is.
I do recall that there was a guy out there impersonating Tony for a few months and was bought under investigation. His name too was Tony and he would say that he was Tony Tune just to get into clubs and parties for free, he dressed just like Tony, disrepected and stole from women, he would walk around with a empty brief case claiming he worked in several prestigiuos places. This guy stole from Tony's house, and from his brothers when they were doing a jewlery business together, now this guy wasn't someone that he even brought in to his circles, this guy knew Tony's brother and that was how he got in until he was found out to be a liar and a thief by Tony, yet our Tony is the one that had to endure bogus accusations and stress from those he knew because of this infiltrator.
So before you start calling anyone names and accusing them of whatever, check your luggage first and then ask what kind of person you would be when you have had a bunch of users who you though were your friends, runnin along side you for the ride to get what they can only to leave you hanging when they have sucked you dry and then turn their back on you. If you knew half the stories then maybe you would have a different perspective of who our life long friend is.
All I know is that for the last 20 plus years he has helped and is still helping people who no one else has reached out to and all that matters in this century, in this decade and in this time, is that he is there for those who do not have a voice once again!!!

The club/music/security/promoter/DJ/sponsors etc community was very very tiny then. So alot of people knew things they werent even supposed to know about. I also agree with one of the other writers here that everyone has a chance to redeem themselves. I wasnt an angel 25yrs ago either. I was given the chance but I didnt do it in the spotlight. All Im saying is that people have a right to speak. People in the public eye will have their pasts revealed. Good or bad. Just dont think Im here and dont know what Im talking about. If Im "rattling off names" your mistaken. (Prospect/top ground pool) Ive been a few times and most of the parties. As far back as the A. Harrell meeting. As far back as St. Johns. I know Im pre-you. I know about the $60K for the car accident one of my boys Mike was almost was killed in it with him. Stop trying to discredit me cause you dont even know me. Your doing exactly what your accusing other people here of doing. We were "academy" graduates together. I know you didnt know that. I remember he has twin boys, if he doesnt they are very close in age and I know they are both by Jackie.
Did I know about the radio show? You mean the one on WNYE? Off Tillary Street? Cramped little room where rotating DJ's played every week? Where DJ ACE started basically? Maybe I dont have the right radio show.
Did I know about his television show? Did you mean Dance Trax usa? The one that came on 31 after another persons show I know called Video Music Box with Ralph McDaniels? Did you mean the show that DJ ACE started to host and then Ray Dejean took over? Did you mean that one? Maybe I dont have the right television show either. Im being sarcastic but Im just making a point.
I also remember that skinny shyster that impersonated Tony. He was this puerto rican known as Minute and he tried that on me at Nells and Savage and he was tossed. He impersonated alot of people, he was Quincy Jones assistant that night. His face was on full club alert for years. He dressed like he was Mr. Colt45 himself Billy Dee Williams.
As far as swinging on someone I said I thought about it. That was in anger but I assure noone would have blamed me. I didnt make that choice because thats what a man does. I just made sure what I earned I was paid for, also what a man does. Period. I have that right.
I thought my first comments were clear. I have nothing against Tony or anyone running for an office of any kind. You, Latanya, just cant come and defend things your not aware of. What you can do is defend on what you know. Which is the right thing to do. As these people here have done. Just as I defend you in your defense of the last 10 yrs you cant deny someone elses reality of the years they spent around and with him. What he has done for the last ten years is great. Again I agree with you. But again you cant deny what someone elses experience of that same person is. I have six brothers and two of them still fight for their reputation because of what they did in the past. One is a lawyer and the other is in the military for 15yrs. Seems like when they see the "old crowd" the past seems to be an issue. I dont agree to an extent but thats reality. They have to own up to it and face it just like anyone else. People dont forget and sometimes they dont forgive.
Its the complete picture that makes us who we are. I wish Tony all the luck in the world. Along with him, we all owe, including you. Just dont past judgement on people just because you dont agree, and dont take it a step further an attack them. Makes you worse then the people your talking about. Know the truth before you speak on it and you dont have to become them to disagree.

Please don't take my communication as an attack on you directly, but I feel that we as black people need to move on from whatever it is we have in our hearts that allows us to hate each other so much, as in this case people would wait 20 plus years to try and dog someone out as though it was something that just happened yesterday. Regardless of what the circumstances may have been, you block your blessings when you bare false witness against thy neighbor!.
Now lets just say something that has been said and alleged here is true, why do you try to undercut this man now!!! We have very few brothers that are stepping up to give our kids positive direction? and to be there to make positive change in our community, this is trifling and vindictive!!!

Whomever it is that has had their beef in the past with Tony just really need to let it go, again there is three sides to every story!!(and by the way Thomas, I have known Tony way before the radio show, before the TV show. I am talking about going back to when he and I was just 14 years old in a volunteer youth group, so I don't think you go back that far with him as I do...lolol)
I am not saying that Tony is an angel, hell we all grow up making mistakes that we wish we haven't and some relationships never end as nicely as we all hope.
However, what I do know is he never borrowed from people and damn sure wasn't a thief. Stealing from people is definitely not his charater, I would stake my life on that, and so would a host of others that he has worked hard to help out even during the time these accusations was alleged to have taken place.
I recall Tony bringing a camera technician on board Dance Traxx as his technical partner on the show, and negotiating the deal that confirmed the partnership where this guy would get free air time as a featured dj on his radio show in lieu of his photography skills. Tony kept up his part of the bargain, but this guy turned around and beefed with Tony because he felt he had no creative control or say so on the TV show. Then to make matters worse, he was suing Tony for a small investment he made into the show that clearly was technically related and not creatively related, but got all the benefits of being associated with the show and the ability to go on and negotiate additional contracts for other projects just by being associated with Tony. So he then went around started dogging him as though Tony stole money from him. This is the BS I am talking about. this is why people don't do business with black folk, the crabs in the barrell mentality is destroying our moral fiber.
So I say all this to say, every story has three sides!! His/her Side, Tony Side and the Lords Side!!!!!
I am of the impression that some chick did not get what she wanted from my homeboy Tony, after realizing the brother was on the come up and things may have not been working out with them and she decided to spread some sh*t to smear the brothers name. If you read through some of the threads, the so called people writing on here are in co-hoots with one another and also I suspect that there is only one person actually writing the postings for this smear team.
Sounds like some old political sh*t that has been put in place to dog this positive brother out. My brothers and sisters, People..... judge the man for yourself, your experiences with him maybe totally different from those whom may have had a past with him, yet just because they say it is, doesn't mean that it is so!!!!
Remember, people only want to know you when you have something they need, when it is all gone they kick you to the side!!!I know that this happen to Tone when he got Dj Ace that job at KISS FM, Ace didn't even want to include the brother in his dealings with the station, becasue he felt that he had arrived and didn't need Tony anymore.....Now the funny thing about this whole deal is that Tony was the one who helped Ace get the job at the radio station...go figure.
Now as for the chick that claims Tony stole from her, moved out on her and took everything...hmmmmm, now if people really want to put others on blast, they say that those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones...
I know the chick Tony was dating and ended the relationship with because he found out that she wanted to be a part time gogo dancer at the house music clubs.. she would get up on the speakers and dance with her little tight skimpy shorts on and dance like she was a stripper. When this was told to Tone and he found it to be true, that is when she was told that the relationship between he and she was over....Now I will say that her first names is Sophia and I know the whole story so lets tell it right, hell I even have the pictures of her in her sexy clothing. I know she does not want me to put her whole government name out there because then she would have to deal with the lie she put on here about contracting an STD, well if that is the case...lets put it all out and see how you feel when someone slanders your name Miss Gogo gurl with lies an innuendo!!!
Tony married a church gurl and did not want any parts of a stripper who would demean themselves by dancing on a speaker living out their torrid fantasy....Now I won't go into the marriage thing because we all know how marriage could be, plus I respect the fact that his sons may read this one day and I do not want to disrespect them....but we got you Tone, you keep doing what you do.

This Tony guy showed me that he is a smooth operator, shyster and a self-centered user . Made promises that he did not keep. God does not like ugly! I pray for him that when he goes out there to the assistance of victims, he does it from the goodness of his heart and not for self-centered motives.

I have read up on this man and talked to some of those people he and his organization have helped out and learned that he has personally come out of his pockets as well used his political connections to get a handful of our young people out of jail before they were sent through the system.
