Crowley Gets a Good Seat

Rep. Joe Crowley just got a seat on the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee, and is contemplating getting a waiver to keep his seat on the Internationals Relations Committee.

Quick, inside-baseball read: Crowley's good relationship with Steny Hoyer is helping him more than his lousy relationship with Nancy Pelosi is hurting him.

-- Azi Paybarah

UPDATE: Crowley just called to contest my characterization of his relationship with the incoming house speaker. "If it wasn't for Charlie Rangel and Nancy Pelosi, I wouldn't be on this committee: no if, ands or butts about it," he said.

As for the recent Democratic leadership race that essentially pitted his team against Pelosi's, Crowley said, "That's behind us."

Crowley seems to be trying real hard to make it look like he and Pelosi are on good terms.

The 2:25 p.m. poster shows how little he or she knows about politics. Of course Joe wants to appear to be on good terms with his Speaker. He is a major force in the Democratic party locally and nationally but he is a team player. That is why he was the uncontested choice to succeed the great Tom Manton. Queens is a consensus county where people actually give and live up to their word. Joe is off to an excellent start and will continue to grow from strength to strength.

wo wo wo...I didn't mean to denigrate him givemeabreak. I know Crowley's a smart guy and very good politically. If anything I was complementing him and his people for how quickly they got him on the phone to refute this and all the other times I've seen it mentioned that he and Pelosi aren't on the best of terms.

Nancy and her minions clearly stiff-armed Crowley in favor of the widely acknowledged non-entity John Larson when Crowley appeared to be the odds-on favorite to join the leadership ranks. On the other hand, she is said to be very grateful to him for the sizable sums he raises for the DCCC, and she made a special point to go to a fundraiser that Christine Quinn held for Joe last year.

How can Crowley run the Queens organization under the McCain

Ghost of Donald Manes (not verified) says:

They'll set up another arm of the County organization for fundraising, separate and apart from the political structure run by Crowley. I am sure there will be no shortage of eager young lawyers to help get the legal niceties out of the way.
