Ferrer Rumors

The rumor that Eliot Spitzer has approached Freddy Ferrer about an appointment as Secretary of State has been making the rounds for weeks now. We first heard about it on Oct 25th, and when I asked Ferrer in an email, he wrote back that day with a clear cut "no."

On the 29th, the New York Post ran a story suggesting otherwise. Ferrer wrote me to deny the story.

"With respect to today's story, the answer is still 'no,'" he wrote. "No one from the Post ever called or contacted me about this."

Today New York Magazine has David Paterson saying "it's still live" and adds some interesting backstory as to why the appointment is a plausible one.

This time, so far, Ferrer isn't responding to a request for comment.

Perhaps this is just a case of Freddy really not wanting it but finding it very hard to say no to Spitzer. They have been very close for a very long time and it could be one of those offer he cant refuse deals.

Didn't he just sign on as a lobbyist with Mercury where he can make tons more money? This is probably just buzz to make him more of a player and boost his lobbying clout.

sorry reader, but this buzz doesn't seem to be created by ferrer, so hard to see how you make that connection. he's being pretty clear about saying no.

Nice posting at 4:07 by the Mercury guys trying to drive up the market price of their new guy

Freddy originally said he'd consider appointed office, then he consulted with his family and decided affirmatively against any further work in the public sector, then he recently hinted that he'd consider another run at something, then he ruled out elected office but indicated that he'd be receptive to an appointment should one come along, then he released a statement dismissing rumors that he'd consider any further public service role, then..

Freddy sees his friend Roberto Ramirez with a flush bank account and he says "Why not me?" Letticia Eve wqon't mind being asked second.
