Carrion NYC

Azi got a hold of this two-minute video sent out by Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion to supporters.

Short of actually containing the words "Vote for Adolfo Carrion for Mayor in 2009," it's about as close as you can get to an election-year mayoral ad.

Inspiring music. Claims of massive increases in investment (236 percent) and decreases in crime (18 percent) since he took over from Fernando Ferrer. And clips of him saying things like this: "What I want to do is I want to give leadership to this city."

And it closes with a logo that imposes the words "Carrion NYC" over the silhouette of a New York skyline.

It's never too soon. I guess.

Good start.

I love it when people take credit for things they had nothing to do with--236% increase in invest in the Bronx, 18% drop in crime since 2001--if Donald Duck was Bronx BP these would have happened anyway.

It is debatable that these things might have happened anyway, but the point is that they did. And some one was steering the ship when it did.

So I using your logic it

Anthony Weiner 2009 - all the way. Crying shame he didn't make it last time around.

Is that city skyline for the closing logo the same as Ferrer's?

Good god, what's next? Scott Stringer taking credit for new investment in Manhattan?

BPs have about as much influence as a pile of pigeon poop. Fortunately for Carrion, most voters are too stupid to know that.

As for me, my BP of choice is Marty Markowitz. He's got better signs welcoming people to his borough than any other BPs. And I love his green bagels.

But really, what a waste of money by Carrion. This lame attempt at name recognition isn't going to be worth a damn thing in 2009. What's Carrion gonna do... run ads for the next two-and-a-half years until voters are actually paying attention?

Guys like him are such fools. In their effort to get ahead, they only highlight how lame they truly are. And really, the only people who do get ahead here are the consultants. And that's cause they're laughing all the way to the bank.

Thank you for writing a post about this ad. Thank you for telling me what was said in the ad.

I never would be able to watch this ad and figure out for myself what the ad said.

What an incredible service you provide.

I like Carrion, but he's already playing with numbers.

A 236% percent increase on 400 million dollars would mean that yearly investment would be 944 million, plus 400 million or 1.344 . in reality, the increase was only 136%, or 544 million.

It would be a shame if a good guy like carrion let stupid consultants ruin things for him this early out.

what a great way to spend money three years before an election. what if none of those things are true in six months? how much value did this ad have? ask Mayor Hevesi and Governor Suozzi if early advertising for an unknown bumps recognition numbers.
