After Yvette
One theme Yvette Clarke rode to victory on Tuesday was that she was the only woman in the four-way Democratic primary for Rep. Major Owens's seat in Brooklyn.
But in the race to fill her soon-to-be-vacated seat City Council seat, so far, women candidates are scarce.
One knowledgeable reader suggested the following as a list of possible contenders to take her place:
-- Wellington Sharpe, who has run for numerous offices and was kicked off the ballot in his race against Assemblyman Nick Perry
-- Moses "Musa" Moore, who just lost his re-election as District Leader and is a close ally of Clarence Norman and Carl Andrews
-- Dr. Mathieu Eugene, who heads an after-school program in the center of the district and is a member of Community Board 14 and is said to have support among the area's Haitian community
-- Samuel Nicolas, a lawyer and cousin of police brutality victim Abner Louima
Any others?
-- Azi Paybarah

How about David Yassky? He loves the neighborhood...
Surely she has an out of work cousin who can carry the torch? Perhaps even a brother. Someone with the Clarke name must be available.
ROCK HACKSHAW.
What about Frances Purcell or Allethia Alleyne. They are women.
SORRY. Not me. I moved out of Brooklyn since last year. Plus I am really not interested in running for office at this moment.
Frances and Allethia are retreads from the 2001 race and Musa Moore is still tainted by the stench of Clarence Norman as indicated by his recent defeat. How about some fresh faces for once?
I just want to say that you guys are on the right track, but you are missing the one name (which I can't say-- they'll know I leaked it) that Clarke is gunning for.
Keep searchin'...
What about Una retaking her old seat?
Carl Andrews?
Can Chris Owen's run?
The residency requirement for Council are much more liberal than State legislature. A candidate has to live in the district at the time of the election. So Owens or Andrews can move and run if they don't live in the district now.
Rock you would have made a fine candidate. I am sorry that you moved out of Brooklyn. I enjoy your blog on room 8, don't stop writing it. PLEASE.
Yvette will have to run for one of two reasons. 1) She will forget to file her election paper work with the Clerk of the House and therefore she won't be moving on. 2) She'll forget to file her paerwork with the city clerk and there will be no special election. Whatever you do Council Woman get the best staff you can to handle those two pieces of paper, they have to be done right and filed correctly. DO NOT let anyone near this project who had anything to do will all your past paper screw ups!
Hanina Sperlin, the hasid close to Norman and Andrews.
Hanina Sperlin, the hasid close to Norman and Andrews.
Jesse Hamilton is the logical choice. He defeated the Moose in this community. He shows he can win. Yvette can go for coalition and support him although he ran on Chris Owens ticket.
Can Al Vann resign from the Council seat he is in, and run for Yvette's seat so he can have 8 more years so he can have a full 8 years more collecting welfare as a Councilman.
NO
I hear Jewish leaders are asking Harry Schiffman to run for the seat.
That Harry Schiffman remark is totally absurd. This district does NOT NOT NOT have a sustainable number of Jews. No Jewish leader has addressed anyone in this way and surely the Hasid remark is riduclous too. The Jesse Hamilton fan also needs to find out where this district is, as it in NOT NOT NOT based in the 43rd AD as much as it gets its votes from 42 and 58. Yes, it does have a non Crown Heights piece of 43 but the heart and soul of the 43rd is in Tish's district.
Finally, one name that I have heard is Georges Boursiquot, a Haitian activist. I doubt he has much traction, but he has expressed interest.
Political people are wondering aloud about Andrews. Would make a good candidate in the Special.
Musa Moore couldnt beat an unknown for District Leader to retain his job. Another ridicuous name.
How about Roy Hastick? Carib leader with ssome backing.
You will likely hear of inteterst from James Conolly as well...won't amount to much either but he will be interested.
That's what I see at the moment.
Yvette may need her job back. In two years, the question is- will she win again? I've heard that someone will challenge her the next time and a woman, Caribbean-American with a degree- who does not have to lie to get ahead. It is someone who is going to put Yvette on the spot and backed up into a corner. This person is rather non-political but has a good heart. Everything will be revealed in a year.
Hey Irish! You are a sick
F%^K !
Good luck taking out an incumbent. That happens so often, especially by disorganized, non-political, good-hearted people. Get a grip on reality.
During Jesse Hamilton's campaign he has always stressed that he was in that community for years and I don't think he will move out of it for a council seat. I look forward to seeing him go against Tish James if he does run for council!!!
Is it true that Rance Huff her press secretary is going to run.
Zenobia McNally ran against Clarke last year, which was a spirited and impressive campaign to say the least and as a resident of that district, I look forward to her being there again
rance huff or anita taylor. two staff of clark's council office.
I agree with 10:55.
On the spot and backed up into a corner that sounds familiar.
11:53, tell McNally that Lydia sends her regards.
McNally was a one-issue clown who was put up to run by Owens' to force Clarke to deplete funds (lotta help that did). She barely registered with the electorate and was trounced. This race is going to be a free-for-all between Caribbean male opponents. Whomever can raise enough money and troops by mid-February special election will win.
Kristen Foy (Sharpton's guy) positioned himself to run for the City Council Seat. How did he do in the 43rd AD race for Distric Leader?
Not surprised if Davis tries to enter the fray. he has name recongition through out Bklyn. All he needs is a good Campain Manager and a great PR person.
