Will Simon & Schuster Have to Answer For Corsi?

Jerome Corsi, author of the 2004 Anti-John Kerry book Unfit for Command, has taken a lot of heat for his latest effort, a grouchy little volume called The Obama Nation that puts forth the notion that Barack Obama might be and probably is a drug addicted Muslim-lover. So far, Simon & Schuster, the company that published Mr. Corsi's book through its conservative Threshold Editions imprint, hasn't been asked to defend their decision to put it out.

Ben Smith at the Politico raises the issue today on his blog, asking a "series of Simon & Schuster authors—including Michael Moore, Alexandra Pelosi, and Paul Begala" how they feel about getting their paychecks from the same place as Mr. Corsi.

Most of them didn't respond, Ben writes, but a spokesman for one pretty big one, Hillary Clinton, did. What did he say? Basically, that Simon & Schuster shouldn't be held responsible for what Threshold—which is run by GOP operative Mary Matalin—does. "Threshold has absolutely nothing to do with the people at Simon & Schuster who have published [Hillary Clinton's] books," the spokesman told Ben.

Will other authors (not to mention all those people who own shares of S&S's parent company, CBS) be so generous? More on this later in the week.

Yes, thanks New York Observer for showing your continued taint towards Barack Hussein Obama.

To wit: You state that Mr. Corsi puts forth "a grouchy little volume called The Obama Nation that puts forth the notion that Barack Obama might be and probably is a drug addicted, Muslim-lover..."

Gee, if telling the truth in New York means someone is "GROUCHY" - sign me up. And let's elect some GROUCHY mayors, governers, presidents, & other policticians while we're at it...

By his own words/books, BHO stated that he did indeed indulge in cannibis as well as "blow" (cocaine). To date, he has never stated that he has STOPPED indulging in illegal drugs. It has been reported by a "Larry Sinclair" that he his drug habit continued as late as 1999. He also stated (paraphrased) that if the political winds shifted in certain ways, he would "go with the Muslims". Gee, how "grouchy" is it to repeat the word of the man himself (is it truly safe to assume that BHO was being truthful in his books)?

That there are indeed incorrect facts put forth in Mr. Corsi's book (like Mr. & Mrs. Obama's actual wedding date) can be more be attributed to the Obama's themselves. Are they ASHAMED of their documented nuptials (marriage license/certificate)? Is he ashamed of his birth certificate? Is he ashamed that he was admitted to an Indonesian school under the name Barry Soetoe, as a Muslim which (by the way, also listed him as a Citizen of Indonesia)?

And with minimal research we find that BHO has published "corrections" to Mr. Corsi's book, some of which have now turned out to be factually-challenged.

Come on Barrack, BE MORE GROUCHY!

Yeah, but does anyone want to hold them accountable for Michael Moore, et al? Is there a principled difference? If so, what is it? If not, is the answer to refuse to publish, i.e. for the company to make value or quality judgments on all topics by all authors? Or is the answer to publish all points of view? I think US law favors the latter.

We're all Americans, but with different viewpoints and opinions, which should be based on truth instead of fallacy.

Much ado about nothing. The supporters of Michael Moore are complaining about Jerome Corsi? You've got to be kidding. If Corsi's book is a lie, how come he is on the Times best sellers list. Just asking. Moore is the epitome of "...liar, liar, pants on fire!" You dim-o-crats better face reality.

Wow... And America starts the decline.

Amazing how quickly we're becoming the most stupid Western nation on the planet. We're already 28th in terms of our home-grown academic scores and 98% of our scientific doctorate holders are foreign. We're even debating evolution in our public schools.

Keep it up Republicans -- a little more of your stupidity and you'll have the country to yourselves (everyone with an IQ above 100 will leave.)

Anonymous (not verified) says:

(1) The fact that Corsi's book is on the bestseller list doesn't mean it's all true. You'd think this would be obvious, but apparently not to right-wingers. (2) Please name some lies in Michael Moore's books as egregious as the lies in Corsi's, before your start comparing them. (3) Instead of spreading lies about Barack Obama, why don't you explain what's so great about McCain? All you Republicans can do is spread lies, hence Swiftboat and now this unethical hatchet job. How about winning something on your candiate's merits for a change, instead of through fearmongering and playing to the worst in the US population?

Now that journalistic integrity has slipped below the waves of the blogosphere and memoirs can be as fictional as hacks like James Frey wish to make them; I suspect that we should expect this sort of "plausible deniability" from traditional publishing houses like S&S. John Lennon may have said it the best, "Just give me some truth."
