Council Candidate Fund-Raises Against 'Old Guard'

Although City Council Member Helen Sears of Queens is no longer term-limited, City Council candidate Alfonso Quiroz is proceeding with his campaign for her Jackson Heights seat.

Sears' vote in support of extending term limits is going to be a major talking point of Quiroz’s campaign, as this invitation to his November 7 fund-raiser indicates.

Quiroz wasn’t banking on support from the Queens County Democratic Party, which was more closely aligned with another candidate, District Leader Danny Dromm. But if Sears runs for re-election, it’s unclear who, if anyone, the party will back.
