At Clarke Forum, Simcha Felder Need Not Apply

The Democratic club home to Representative Yvette Clarke and her mother, Una Clarke, a former City Council member, will hear presentations tonight from State Senator Kevin Parker and one of the Democrats trying to unseat him, City Councilman Kendall Stewart.

Una Clarke said the presentations will be made to the executive committee of the club and are not open to the press. She also said the third Democrat in the race, City Councilman Simcha Felder, has not asked to speak to the club. Felder announced his candidacy for the seat only a few weeks ago, and Clarke says, "There is still a lot of unknown about him in the community.”

When asked which candidate she was leaning towards, Clarke replied, “I am not leaning -- I am standing straight until I get a level playing field and figure out what exactly is happening.”

Clarke said she thinks this primary shares some similarities with the 2006 Democratic primary in Brooklyn's 11th Congressional district-- the contest won by her daughter -- when there was considerable speculation that the district’s African-American voters would be divided among the three black candidates, giving the only white candidate a victory. Clarke thinks Felder poses a threat if he “gets a solid vote in his community, and the other votes are split in many ways.”

UPDATE: A source close to Felder said he made numerous calls to Yvette Clarke about the event which were not returned, and he did not receive an invitation to tonight's event.

Let the African - American community get behind one candidate , otherwise it will be divide & conquer by Felder. That's his MO. Do the right thing!

why is having a white candidate so bad? If he lives in the district- he has the right to run for the seat.

This is nothing like the Yassky race. Yassky didn't live in the district. Felder has loved their his whole life! Plus the district is only 50% black. Not like the Yassky district which was nearly 70% black. Felder has every right to run.

There's nothing wrong with Mr. Felder , running, but I ask you this question: If he's for all the people, how much money of the $2 million dollars that Mayor Mike gave Mr. Felder did he steer to the black community? Can I have an answer without the spin.

Felder is nothing but a political opportunist. He's NEVER done anything for the Black part of the district and his district is over 72% white - one of the whitest areas in Brooklyn. Now he wants to represent a district is nearly the same in percentage but Black. This man does not even know where to find Utica Avenue since this "Black part of town" was never considered important. Now he's going to be out of a job and feels that all Black people are so stupid that he can easily buy their votes with his millions. Noach Dear tried that and look where it got him..

By the way the talk is that he's gotten "a special dispensation" from hi Rabbi to shake women's hands and visit churches and rumor has it he's a;ready trying to "financially help" some Black churches in the district - for the very first time.

If Kevin Parker had lived up to his potential and been known for something other than an altercation with a traffic agent, he would have had my vote. Stewart's office is tainted by scandal that he may not have ben aware of, but I can find absolutly nothing negative about Felder. I'm going to go for Felder because of his squeekly clean record and capable staff.

Felder was a councilman in a 90 percent white district and was good for his district. If elected State senator over an area that has more African Americans I believe he would still be good for his new distric black and white. Kevin Parker as done almost nothing for his district. Kendal Stuart seems like a nice guy but the corruption gets me nervous.
